Hen House Chronicles

Carmen's been looking forward to this day for months, maybe even years. Am I talking about our wedding day? No. What about the day we moved into our first house? No. Sex and the City movie premier. Yes. She's been T-minusing the days since she discovered the release date. Just this week, "T-miiiinus fooour daaaays 'til Sex and la City." "Can't wait," I responded.

Well, the day has arrived. And me, being the wonderful husband that I am, am taking my wife. I even got the tickets online, because I knew it would sell out. We arrive at the theater, get out of the car, and I hear what sounds like a stampede. I get a little confused. I look around and see a parking garage, but it sure as hell feels like the wild west. Then I see them...30 heifers, clackin' their high heals, just a cackling all the way to the box office. We follow the herd.

As I get a "man, I feel sorry for you" look from the power dork ticket-tearer, I knew I was in for a long night. We get inside the theater, it's packed, we find our seats, and wait. And as we were anticipating My Little Pony Parker on the big screen, I couldn't help but notice how loud it was. Women everywhere. Just chatting it up. My wife of course joined in. I kept looking for Tupperware, but it never came to be. I was one of five guys in there. And of the five, I think I was the only one with a female significant other...if you know what I mean. Previews. Finally (Napoleon Dynamite voice). Maybe it'll quiet down. Not so much, these women are waiting for the main event.

The movie starts. About time. A little strong sexual content, graphic nudity, and language later...the movie's over. And I have to admit it was funny. I even had to hold back a few tears, just kidding, but seriously (White Goodman voice). It honestly wasn't...too bad. I even might of enjoyed it...just a little though. So as an homage to the Sex and the City premier, and obviously the greatest day of my wife's life...how about my top five chick flick list?

1. The Notebook--Rachel McAdams was stunning, and I love period pieces. Cinematography was especially beautiful (Charleston's awesome). I keep waiting for my "ATTENTION LADIES: I ENJOYED THE NOTEBOOK" t-shirt, but nothing.

2. Fried Green Tomatoes--Love, love, love movies about the South...even if it is a chick flick.

3. Steel Magnolias--See #2.

4. Love Actually--Witty. Sexy. Funny. I'm all about some British humor.

5. Serendipity--Kate Beckinsale was oh so hot in this, enough said.

This post totally cracked me up!

I noticed the same thing about the noise level at the SATC movie. It was weird how chatty these girls were during the previews.

My husband was annoyed with how the whole Carrie and Big thing ended up. I liked it.

I love 3 of your movies on your list: Notebook (of course you know why), Serendipity (Before Ryan I had a major John Cusack crush and I agree with you about Kate--she is really cute in this) and Love Actually (LOVE this movie!!!).

Thanks for participating. I just added your link to the post.

i saw it super late at night, so no noise level but my goodness... a little sexual content? Normally this stuff doesn't bother me, but wow... yeah.

I loved Love Actually. Actually, I liked all of the ones on your list. Especially Steel Magnolias.

Hilarious post! I was sad to see young girls at our premier, 8, 9 years old. Also, there were only 2 men at ours, both sat alone, far from each other.

I have to admitt I have never seen a Sex in the City show. I think I'm the only one in the world. I have seen a lot on the TV lately mainly about the fashion. Maybe when it comes out on DVD I watch. Now I have seen all of your top 5 chick flicks and loved them. I like the way you write, very funny :)

You know you were counting down the days and hours until SATC's opening night!

By the way, Terms of Endearment - My all-time favorite chick flick.

That's really sweet of you to take your wife to see SATC. And, your chick-flick list is great. I love 'Love Actually' (I guess because I enjoy reading British chick-lit).
